Web Engine V2 is in 'beta', what does that mean?
Web Engine is now fully-functional, but some of the more advanced features do not have the level of Help documentation that we would like. Also, there are a number of new, additional features we are currently incorporating into Web Engine. Once they have been added, and the Help documentation is updated, then we will drop the 'beta' designation

When will the final release of Web Engine V2 be available?
We do not have a specific date for dropping the 'beta' designation. As long as we continue to add new features we will hold off dropping 'beta' from the title. Having said that, at present we are focusing our attention on the final Web Engine V2 release.

What is the advantage to purchasing Web Engine (beta) now over waiting for the final release?
The advantage is that you get to work with Web Engine now. As stated above, Web Engine is fully functional as is. There are some new features we are adding, as well as more Help documentation. If you purchase now you are entitled to the final Web Engine V2 release, as well as all subsequent Web Engine 'V2' releases free of charge. Also, if you purchase Web Engine now you receive SiteSpinner at no extra cost.

What is the difference between SiteSpinner and Web Engine?
At present Web Engine has all the functionality of SiteSpinner, plus it has the ability to create interactive animation. As the final release nears new features will be added to Web Engine that are not in SiteSpinner - see below...

If I have Web Engine, do I need SiteSpinner?
At the present time, 'no'. Web Engine has all the functionality of SiteSpinner and more. However, as Web Engine matures the two products may diverge - this is why, until the final release of Web Engine V2 is posted, we also give you SiteSpinner at no extra charge when you purchase Web Engine.

Virtual Mechanics has partnered with webhosting companies, does that mean I have to use them to host my website?
No, Virtual Mechanics products produce industry standards compliant web pages that can be hosted on any standard web server. The built-in FTP Publisher enables you to Publish your pages to any webhost you wish to use. Of course, if you are looking for a reliable webhost, our trusted webhosting partners are a good choice.

What is HTML, DHTML, and SVG, and what is the difference between them?
HTML stands for 'HyperText Mark-up Language' - this is the standard file format for web pages on the Internet. DHTML stands for 'Dynamic HyperText Mark-up Language' and is standard HTML with added functionality. With DHTML you can create Interactive Animation that can be viewed on any of the standard web browsers. SVG stands for 'Scalable Vector Graphics'. SVG is a relatively new technology that better displays graphics at smaller files sizes on supporting devices.

Do visitors to Web Engine created sites need to download anything to view the pages?
If you Publish your web pages as HTML or DHTML, then visitors to your website do not need anything special to view your site - their standard web browser is all they need. If you Publish your page as an SVG file, then visitors will need to have either Mozilla FireFox, Opera, or Internet Explorer/Safari + the Adobe SVG Player.

Can pages created with Web Engine be viewed on mobile devices (cell phones, PDAs)?
Virtual Mechanics has partnered with Opera Software in order to embed Opera technology into Web Engine. This will enable you to preview how your pages will display on a standard web browser, as well as on a mobile web browser. Once this integration is completed, you will only need to Publish your site once, and the pages will be formatted to display correctly on all web browsers, as well as on all mobile devices that include a web browser. Opera currently has 80% of the mobile web browser market.

Can I create and export an animation to use on another, non-Web Engine or SiteSpinner created web page (and why would I want to)?
The final release of Web Engine will include the ability to export stand-alone, animated DHTML or SVG objects. With this functionality authors will be able to create animations that can be dropped into any standard web page. For example, currently most animated banners are created using Flash
. The advantage of a DHTML animated banner is that a) they do not need a browser plug-in to be viewed, b) they are not confined to the horizontal or vertical strip of the page they are embedded into, and c) they are indexable by search engines.
